Product Designer at Hoop Telecoms

Job Overview:

• Hoop Telecoms Limited is seeking a creative and technically inclined Product Designer to lead the design and usability of customer-facing and field-deployed telecom hardware.
• The ideal candidate will combine industrial design, user interface design, and product ergonomics to create intuitive, durable, and visually appealing devices such as ONUs, routers, radios, and CPEs.
• You will work closely with engineers, field technicians, vendors, and customers to ensure product designs are functional, efficient, and user-friendly.

Key Responsibilities

• Design the form factor, interface, and physical casing of telecom hardware, including ONUs/ONTs, routers, OLTs, CPEs, and radio devices.
• Develop intuitive user interactions with device buttons, LED indicators, ports, and mountability (e.g., wall vs. desk).
• Translate functional and technical requirements into elegant industrial designs.
• Create product sketches, 3D CAD models, and detailed product mockups.
• Collaborate with network engineers and procurement teams to align design with technical constraints and manufacturing feasibility.
• Conduct user research with field engineers and customers to understand pain points with current device interfaces or usability.
• Work with branding to ensure visual consistency across product design, packaging, and labelling.
• Develop documentation and prototypes for external manufacturers and vendors.
• Stay current with trends in hardware UX, telecom equipment, and environmental durability.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in hardware product design (telecom, IoT, or electronics preferred).
• Proficient in 2D/3D design tools: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma (for UI/UX mockups).
• Familiarity with technical telecom devices such as routers, ONUs, GPON/FTTx gear, or RF radios.
• Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and environmental factors (heat, weather, field handling).
• Strong problem-solving skills, design thinking, and user empathy.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience designing rugged field equipment or electronic enclosures.
• Knowledge of IP rating standards, thermal design, and mounting options.
• Familiarity with UI/UX elements of device web portals or app-based setup.
• Experience working with telecom technicians or hardware vendors.
