  • The Senior Product Manager owns the end-to-end lifecycle of complex payment products, with a strong focus on card acquiring (Visa & Mastercard), collections, and cross-border payment platforms. This role operates as the Product Manager of the Payments Value Stream, responsible for strategy, execution, compliance alignment, and commercial impact across Nigeria, Africa, and international markets.
  • The Senior Product Manager is expected to balance deep functional expertise with macro-level strategy, delivering world-class, scalable, and compliant payment solutions.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Define and own the payments product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap aligned with company growth and global expansion goals.
  • Act as the Payments Value Stream owner, accountable for outcomes across acquiring, collections, settlement, and integrations.

Payments & Domain Leadership

  • Lead Card Acquiring products across Visa and Mastercard, including authorization flows, settlement, chargebacks, and compliance.
  • Own collections and disbursement workflows across local and international payment methods.
  • Design and optimize payment orchestration, routing, and failover strategies.
  • Ensure products meet Nigerian, African, and international payment ecosystem requirements, including local schemes, banks, and processors.
  • Partner closely with Compliance and Risk teams to embed PCI-DSS, KYC, AML, and regulatory controls into product flows.

Discovery & Customer Obsession

  • Lead deep discovery: customer interviews, merchant insights, market analysis, and competitive benchmarking (local & global).
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Nigerian fintech landscape, while benchmarking against global best-in-class payment platforms.
  • Translate customer pain points into clear, prioritized product bets that improve activation, reliability, and scale.

Delivery & Execution Excellence

  • Translate business and customer needs into PRDs, user stories, API contracts, and acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with engineering on solution design, sprint planning, and technical trade-offs.
  • Be micro-involved in payment flows, edge cases, error handling, reconciliation, and performance metrics.
  • Own backlog prioritization to ensure focus on customer impact, revenue, and risk reduction.
  • Drive user acceptance testing, release readiness, and post-launch iterations.

Integrations & Ecosystem

  • Lead ERP and accounting system integrations to automate reconciliation, reporting, and financial workflows.
  • Collaborate with Platform teams to ensure all payment capabilities are API-first and scalable.
  • Support white-label, PaaS, and partner integrations as part of global expansion.

Go-To-Market & Commercial Ownership

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, and Growth teams to define positioning, pricing implications, and launch plans.
  • Act as a commercially aware PM, understanding revenue drivers, transaction economics, and margin impact.
  • Support sales enablement with product narratives, demos, and customer-facing insights.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6-8 years of Product Management experience, with deep focus on payments or fintech platforms.
  • Hands-on experience delivering Card Acquiring products with Visa & Mastercard.
  • Strong understanding of collections, settlements, FX, and cross-border payments.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Nigerian and African payments ecosystem, with exposure to international markets.
  • Experience integrating with ERP and accounting systems.
  • Proven track record of scaling customer-facing financial products.
  • Strong payments domain expertise (acquiring, routing, reconciliation, settlement).
  • Excellent analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • High ownership mindset
  • Comfort working in regulated, high-risk environments.
